It’s been a long time

It’s been more than a year since I contributed anything here. I could say it’s because it’s been a really good time to be in consulting. I could also say, I’ve been finding more and more ways to fill up my time. In the end, the biggest reason is, I fell out of the routine. That’s on me.

My goal this year is to take all of the projects I’ve been involved with over the past year, and those I’m working this year, and share what I’ve learned. That’s the only way to truly cement what I’ve learned.

So let me tease some of the new 2020 content. I stood up a new workstation with 48 cores and 128GB of RAM. This machine is to help me illustrate everything from Active Directory integration with Azure Active Directory. Did I mention this workstation is Running Ubuntu? I’ll also finally get around to sharing how to virtualize and containerize all the things!

Let’s go even further with Linux and SQL. Who wants Windows authentication for all your Linux hosts and users? How about Windows auth for your Linux Containers? What’s that, it’s not possible?

It’s not officially possible, sure.

Let’s see, how about SQL Server on a Raspberry Pi? How about a new data science project to help you drive your car more efficiently? And I’m not saying go out and buy a new car, I’m talking about any car with an ODB-II port (that’s every car after 1996).

I’ve also been working on my Interrogator code, it’s pretty close to a version 2 release. This time you’ll be able to use it from a shared library (on Windows, Linux, or Mac). Oh, and for those of you who can’t alter their machines or download programs, how about a cloud-based version? I learned to write C# in a new way that lets me port the same code to nearly anything you can think of!

I hope there’s something in that list above that you want to learn more about, if not, hit me up on twitter @shannonlowder and tell me what you want. I can’t wait to get started!
